Hamilton Park Racecourse enjoys a unique place in Scottish racing, being the country’s only purpose-built Flat racing venue. Located just outside Glasgow in South Lanarkshire, it has been welcoming racegoers since the late 1920s. Today, it combines competitive summer racing with a reputation for excellent hospitality, making it one of Scotland’s most popular sporting destinations.
Front-runners can be difficult to catch if they judge the pace correctly at Hamilton, but the demanding finish often gives strong closers every chance to make an impact. Fixtures are staged from May through to September, with a mixture of handicaps, novice contests and Listed races attracting trainers from both Scotland and the north of England.
The Listed Glasgow Stakes is among the highlights of the calendar, while the Lanark Silver Bell, one of Britain’s oldest sporting trophies, remains a race steeped in tradition.
Beyond racing, Hamilton Park has become a major events venue in its own right. Summer concerts have welcomed a host of well-known artists over the years, while popular music nights following racing continue to draw large crowds. The venue also hosts weddings, conferences, business functions, charity events and festive celebrations throughout the year, helping it remain busy long after the final race has been run.
