Situated on the edge of the seaside town of Redcar, this racecourse combines a relaxed atmosphere with a strong racing programme, making it a popular destination for both dedicated racing fans and those simply looking for an enjoyable day out.
The venue stages exclusively Flat racing between spring and autumn on a left-handed circuit that is widely regarded as fair and galloping. One of its defining features is the long home straight, which gives horses plenty of opportunity to challenge late and often produces genuinely run races. Unlike tighter tracks where tactical positioning can dominate, Redcar frequently rewards horses capable of finishing strongly, making it a fascinating course for betting.
While Redcar doesn’t host major festivals, it has several notable fixtures of its own. The Two-Year-Old Trophy is among the highlights of the season, attracting some of the country’s most promising juvenile sprinters, while the Zetland Gold Cup has become a popular early summer handicap. Ladies’ Day and evening meetings also feature prominently, helping to create a lively and welcoming atmosphere throughout the racing calendar.
Away from the sport, Redcar Racecourse serves as an important venue for the local community. Weddings, conferences, exhibitions, business functions and private celebrations are held throughout the year, while its modern hospitality facilities make it well suited to a wide range of events. Friendly, accessible and full of character, Redcar continues to play an important role in British Flat racing while remaining one of the North East’s most enjoyable racecourses to visit.
