Doncaster Racecourse Events

Doncaster Racecourse has long been regarded as one of the cornerstones of British horse racing. Situated on the famous Town Moor in South Yorkshire, it is one of the country’s oldest racing venues, with records of organised racing stretching back more than 400 years. Today, it remains one of Britain’s premier racecourses, combining a rich heritage with first-class modern facilities and a calendar that attracts many of the sport’s biggest names.

A dual-purpose venue, Doncaster stages both Flat and National Hunt racing, although it is the Flat season for which it is best known. The wide, galloping left-handed track is renowned for being one of the fairest in Britain, giving horses every opportunity to settle into their rhythm.

It also has the distinction of traditionally hosting both the opening and closing weekends of the British Flat turf season. For racing fans, however, the undisputed highlight is the four-day St Leger Festival in September, centred around the St Leger Stakes, the world’s oldest Classic. Other prestigious fixtures include the Lincoln Handicap, Doncaster Cup and Futurity Trophy, ensuring top-quality action throughout the year.

Away from the track, Doncaster has developed into one of Yorkshire’s leading entertainment and business venues. A major redevelopment has transformed the racecourse into a year-round destination, with extensive hospitality suites, exhibition space and an on-site hotel.

Weddings, conferences, trade shows, Christmas parties, live music nights and family fun days all feature prominently in the calendar, while themed race days continue to draw large crowds. Blending centuries of racing tradition with modern amenities, Doncaster offers one of the most complete racecourse experiences anywhere in the UK.
