Fontwell Park Racecourse Events

Few racecourses in Britain are as distinctive as Fontwell Park. Tucked away in the West Sussex countryside between Chichester and Arundel, it has earned a reputation as one of the country’s most unusual National Hunt venues thanks to its unique figure-of-eight layout.

Fontwell remains the only racecourse in Britain to feature this configuration, creating a fascinating test for both horse and jockey as they tackle left and right-handed bends during the same circuit. For punters, that quirk alone makes Fontwell a venue where previous course form is often worth closer inspection.

Jump racing has been the focus here since the 1920s, with meetings taking place from autumn through to late spring. Although it doesn’t stage the headline festivals associated with Cheltenham or Aintree, Fontwell has carved out its own place on the racing calendar through competitive handicaps, popular family fixtures and a welcoming atmosphere that attracts a loyal local following.

The racecourse has evolved well beyond being solely a sporting venue. Throughout the year, its facilities host conferences, weddings, exhibitions, private celebrations and business events, ensuring the site remains busy even when racing isn’t taking place. Family fun days, themed race days and seasonal entertainment also help introduce new audiences to the sport.
