Wincanton Racecourse Events

Wincanton Racecourse has become one of the South West’s most respected National Hunt venues, attracting racegoers from across Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. Located on the edge of the historic market town of Wincanton, the racecourse enjoys a picturesque countryside setting while remaining easily accessible from much of southern England.

Exclusively a jumps venue, Wincanton stages racing from autumn through to spring on a right-handed circuit that is renowned for rewarding speed as well as stamina. The track is considered one of the sharper jumping courses in Britain, often favouring horses that travel fluently and jump accurately at pace.

That distinctive character has made it a popular stepping stone for quality hurdlers and chasers, with several future stars having passed through the course on their way to bigger prizes. Feature races include the Elite Hurdle and the Kingwell Hurdle, both of which regularly attract high-class fields and serve as important trials for the latter stages of the National Hunt season.

The racecourse has also developed into a thriving events venue away from racing. Weddings, conferences, business meetings and private celebrations are held throughout the year, while Christmas events and themed fixtures help broaden its appeal beyond the sport. Modern hospitality facilities ensure visitors can enjoy the venue whatever the occasion.

Wincanton successfully balances tradition with progress, offering a friendly atmosphere alongside consistently competitive jump racing. Its fast, exciting circuit and strong programme of feature races have helped cement its place as one of the leading National Hunt racecourses in the south of England.
